Today marks history as the Cleveland Indians face the Chicago Cubs in game one in the 2016 World Series. However, while Cleveland looks to celebrate its second championship team in a year, we at Four Pillars Executives remember all the challenges that had to be overcome for the team to even be a part of this historic series.
Since the beginning of the season, the Indians have consistently been the underdog of the American League. Basing their opinions on past seasons, many never thought that the Indians would go 94 and 67, let alone that they would be the American League Champions. Fans that haven’t been to a game in years made an effort to go out and see the return of the Indians.
However, as the season progressed, disaster continued to strike and the Indians lost 60% of their starting pitchers due to injury. Despite this loss, the Indians continued to play with vigor and determination. It is clear they were willing to give their all to show the city that the Cavs don’t have to be the only Cleveland champions.
With the conclusion of the playoffs, and the start of the World Series, the Indians continue to be the underdog. They are looking to beat out the Chicago Cubs whose season record is 103 and 58. However, the Indians are also the only team in the bottom third of total payroll to make the playoffs this year. This means that the Indians are not only full of talent, but also a team with a goal that that goes beyond the amount of money each player makes.
As the team begins their final battle to win it all, we at Four Pillars Executives are attempting to follow their example and work towards our own goals. To those in our lives who feel that we are the underdogs, we look to the Indians to prove that we are the powerful and that underdogs can go all the way. We encourage you to also follow this example and reach for your own goals! While you do so, remember to cheer the Indians to victory!
